Sit Tight, Skeezix

The past couple months have been pretty tense, Skeezix-wise, as the prospect of pre-term labor has been with us pretty constantly. But the Adorable Progeny has hung in so far, and every day he does he gets stronger and more developed. So listen to your father, Skeezix, and stay put for another ten weeks, okay?

The line quoted is from Sea Dreams by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Sea Dreams is a narrative poem about a family coping with getting swindled out of their savings, but the following is often excerpted as Cradle Song for collections of children's poetry:

What does the little birdie say
In her nest at peep of day?

Let me fly, says little birdie,
Mother, let me fly away.

Birdie, rest a little longer,
Till the little wings are stronger.

So she rests a little longer,
Then she flies away.

What does little baby say,
In her bed at peep of day?

Baby says, like little birdie,
Let me rise and fly away.

Baby, sleep a little longer,
Till the little limbs are stronger.

If she sleeps a little longer,
Baby too shall fly away.

Thanks for the good thoughts, April! As far as needing anything: start warming up those babysitting muscles now.

Definitely willing good vibes your way. It's so weird to think there's a little Joel on the way.

Thanks, Shobo. And, well, I think he'll be more than just a little Joel. He'll be Son of Joel: The Next Generation: Extreme Maximum Platinum Edition: The Reckoning!

See, I married above my station, and Skeezix is going to benefit from some primo genetic material from the Lovely Wife. Like, this kid has a decent chance at being able to dance.

Good luck there. I will try to send you some good thoughts and vibes. I would love to meet the wife sometime too. Hope the holidays treated you well. And happy New Year to ya.

Thanks, Dany! Good vibes and well-wishing is definitely being accepted! And, yeah, you need to meet the Lovely Wife, and soon, the Adorable Progeny. Any chance you'll find yourself out Memphis-way any time in the next year or two?

I love that passage, Joel. I love even more that you've used it for Skeezix. We are all sending lots of positive, "sit tight" thoughts out to you. We are here for you.

Thanks, John! It's great to have the support of family!

I may not know you but I am familiar enough with pre birth complications. It can add an unwanted layer of anxiety to a really great experience. Wishing you the best from here as well.

Thanks, Stephen! Today began Skeezix's 31st week, and all is still fine. We're actually starting to relax our guard a bit at this point. But when the complications began, back during week 23, we were considerably more freaked out.
