The Doffer pt. 4

The sad little feet have just walked all over your heart, haven't they? You probably want to go lie down now. Maybe turn the lights off, and listen to some cello concertos. And, you know, just think.

If you want to actually depress the hell out of yourself, I can send you the photo references I gathered for this piece. Hundreds and hundreds of photographs of child laborers. And they ain't all safely in the past, either. Blegh.

The Doffer pt. 3

Things aren't looking up for the sad feet, yet. But at least they're gainfully employed.

Gallerie d' IronHide Tom pt. 4

The pics keep coming in!

This one wasn't sent in, but Classy Chris Pitzer found it over on Broken Pony.

And here's Tom as depicted by 8-year-old Eddie Smith, of Leeds. What could possibly be cooler than this amazing drawing? Howsabout a brand new IronHide Tom adventure, courtesy of young Master Smith?

How many shades of awesome is that? Check out the armory Tom has on his new ship. And what about that first panel where Tom's in jail? Isn't that great? I wish my students could grasp perspective and layered composition like that (I'm looking at you, Jim). Eddie must get it from his father.

Gallerie d' IronHide Tom!

Only three more days before Free Comic Book Day! I don't know about you, but I'm so excited I couldn't help but hang up my Free Comic Book Day stocking a little early this year, and I just can't stop humming my favorite Free Comic Book Day carols!

A couple reviews of The Preposterous Voyages of IronHide Tom have trickled in already, and I'm glad to say that they've been positive. They do, however, keep making the point that there is some rough language and stick-figure-violence in the comic. It seems that my attempts to go all-ages have failed. Ah, well, back to the full-frontal vegetable nudity for me.

And speaking of that scruvy son of the South Seas, here are the three depictions of ol' IronHide that I've recieved so far. If I get some more, I'll post them this weekend. Enjoy:

Arr!

Avast!

Ye Olde Butterflye

Or, Der Schmetterling!

Dashing Dean Trippe, who is, I suppose, already in Africa doing good works, is running a contest to draw alternate-universe versions of his character, Butterfly. Well, he submitted such a lovely drawing of IronHide Tom, that I had to roll up my sleeves and return in kind. So this is my vision of Butterfly in 16th Century Germany.

I realize that I've left everyone hanging with the sad feet. I'll get back to this story. I claim the marathon chaos that is the end of the semester.

Speaking of semesters ending, I hope you'll drop by the blogs of my seniors and check out how their projects turned out. Myself, I'm pleased as Punch with their work.

And speaking of IronHide Tom, today is the stated deadline for submissions, but I'll be taking drawings in until the 5th. Hell, it ain't like I'm going to throw anything that comes in on the 6th away, either. So draw, ya'll!
